Bluey Baby Names For A Subtle Nod To The Show

Add Mom on Google:

If I let my toddler name his baby sister, her name would have been Bluey. He is obsessed with the blue heeler pup and her sister, Bingo, from the Australian animated TV series "Bluey" — and so am I. The funny, heartfelt, and deeply relatable show has been the most-streamed title in the United States for two years in a row, per Nielsen, and it's not just kids watching. I love "Bluey," too, and all its lovable characters, cheeky moments, and hidden lessons. So, I caved and actually did give my daughter a name from the show: Chloe!

Chloe is a kind Dalmatian dog who loves playing games with Bluey and pretending to be a princess, a spy, or an octopus. The name is one of the most popular in the United States, so it's a much more subtle tribute to the show than Bluey would be.

If you don't want to name your baby Chloe, there are tons of other cute girl names you might love that are inspired by "Bluey" characters. Indy, the Afghan hound with a more hippie vibe, is a fun (and sometimes bossy) friend of Bluey's. Lila, the tiny and shy Maltese dog, loves being silly with her best friend, Bingo. Other names we love include Millicent, Bingo's fancy toy dog; Juniper, a Shiba Inu pup and friend of Bingo's; and Rita, the name of Bluey's Granny alter ego.

Wackadoo! There are tons of cool baby boy names from 'Bluey,' too

Lest you think only baby girls can be named after "Bluey" characters, there are also a ton of personalities with fantastic names for baby boys. Winton, for example, is Bluey's English bulldog friend, who you might remember as the "space invader" that doesn't quite understand personal space (but we love him anyway!).

Rusty is great for a red-haired baby as this name translates to "red head." In "Bluey," Rusty is a red kelpie with red fur, who loves pretending to be in the Army and playing cricket. Parents can't go wrong with naming their baby after Jean-Luc, a blue Labrador friend that Bluey met while camping. This French name is a combination of Jean, meaning "God is gracious," and Luc, meaning "man from Lucania." For your family, you could just go with Jean or Luc, which are both cute in their own right without being as obviously from "Bluey."

Looking for a gender-neutral name for your little one? There are several options in "Bluey," like Bentley, a cute Cavalier King Charles spaniel dog, who is tiny but determined (especially when it comes to mastering the monkey bars). Mackenzie is another good one, after Bluey's border collie friend, who is always down for a game or exploring the creek or outer space. With so many incredible monikers, "Bluey" should come up with its own baby name book!
