Full House Baby Names That Will Bring You Right Back To The '90s

Add Mom on Google:

When you say "the Tanner family," moms of a certain age probably know exactly who that means. "Full House," the story of a widower raising his three daughters along with his brother-in-law and best friend, was one of the biggest sitcom hits of the late 1980s to mid-1990s. If you grew up saying, "You got it, dude!", consider taking a trip back to your childhood by bringing back one of the characters' names for your baby.

The name Michelle immediately brings to mind the cute littlest sister who had some of the show's most memorable moments. This name feels especially authentic to millennial parents as it was one of the most popular girl names for babies born in the 1980s, meaning chances are, there was a Michelle or two in your classes growing up. Stephanie, the middle sister, had her own catchphrase: "How rude!" The name suited her sometimes bossy character as it translates to "crown". And who can hear the name D.J. (short for Donna Jo) without thinking of Candace Cameron Bure's role as the oldest sister? Donna means "lady of the home," which is appropriate as the eldest daughter.

The male names also live on as their characters. For instance, Uncle Jesse will forever have us picturing John Stamos in a leather jacket saying, "Have mercy!"  The name Joey makes sense for the comic relief character, with its playful connotations and its ties to loyalty and love. And finally, you can't forget patriarch Danny, played by Bob Saget. This solid, dependable name was perfectly suited for a steadfast dad. In fact, the name, Daniel, is in the Bible as a figure known for his wisdom.

Full House names for the real fans

The supporting cast names are just as millennial-coded as the main characters. Who can forget Aunt Becky, played by Lori Loughlin? The classic name, Rebecca, hit the top 10 most popular names list in 1973, but remained a top 40 name choice through the late 1990s, perhaps inspired by the popularity of this show. There was also D.J.'s best friend, the over-the-top Kimmy Gibbler. The name Kimberly was popular in the 90s as well, landing among the 60 most popular girls' names in the United States.

Also making appearances throughout the years was D.J.'s boyfriend, the recurring character Steve. For a common name, you may be surprised to know that Steve hasn't landed on the top 1,000 most popular names list in the U.S. since 2016, but around the time of the show, it was consistently in the top 400. In 1991, Aunt Becky and Uncle Jesse went on to have their own twins, little boys named Alex and Nicky. That year, Alexander was the 20th most popular boys' name, while Nicholas landed higher at No. 6.

True fans of the show went on to watch the spinoff "Fuller House," which aired from 2016 to 2020. There, we met D.J.'s sons, Jackson, Max, and Tommy. All are still popular names today, with Jackson ranking especially well at No. 36 in 2025. While any of these names may not be immediately associated with "Full House," it's a way for parents to keep the beloved '90s show with them without sounding like you named your child after a TV character.
